Advent wreath
Use of the Advent wreath was linked to an ancient pre-Christian Germanic custom, derived from the pagan rituals of light , which were celebrated in the month of Yule (December).
In the sixteenth century it spread among Christians becoming a symbol of the period before Christmas.
The Advent wreath is a circle made with bay leaves or sprigs of pine (the color green symbolizes hope, life) with four candles.
During the season of Advent (four weeks) will light a candle every Sunday.
According to tradition, each candle has its own meaning: there is the candle of the prophets, the candle of Bethlehem, the shepherds and the angels.
The crown may be placed on a shelf or hanging from the chandelier. The lighting of each candle is accompanied by a moment of prayer.
It concludes with a hymn to the Mother of Jesus
